intentional forgetfulness

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith – that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and … Continue reading intentional forgetfulness

The Pearl

A gem of considerable value in the ancient world. So much so that the Jewish Talmud said it was “beyond the value of any set price.” (MacArthur, “Daily Readings from the Life of Christ.” December 20.) Matthew 13:45-56, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” The kingdom was so valuable to him, that he gave up everything to have it. Isn’t that what the gospel calls us to do? Give up everything we have and … Continue reading The Pearl

Security

What security does my degree plan offer? A piece of paper. How secure am I with my current job? In the short run, I have a job. But what about the long run? I know that sounds very pessimistic, … Continue reading Security

Something to ponder…

With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, I thought it would be appropriate to post this prayer from The Valley of Vision. I can honestly say, to my shame, that I don’t thank God enough in my prayers. This prayer shows many different areas of thanksgiving…if I could just take one area each time I prayed…sit down and truly count the blessings God has given me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Praise and Thanksgiving, p.27 ~~~ O My God, Thou fairest, greatest, first of all objects, my heart admires, adores, loves thee, for my little vessel is as full as it can be, and I … Continue reading Something to ponder…

An Eternal Perspective

“One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in His temple.” Psalm 27:4 This passage finds itself in the middle of a psalm focused on a strong trust in the Lord. The psalmist speaks of a fearless outlook on his adversaries because the Lord is his “light and salvation.” The evil that stood against him forced him to look upward. He realized that his future was not a life … Continue reading An Eternal Perspective
