“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 NASB)
The omniscient, omnipotent Creator God knows me! He orchestrated every element of my life from before conception, through development, all the way to birth. He sustains me now and will see me through to the end of my stay on earth. Such a humbling thought.
“For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.” (Psalm 139:13-16 NASB)
I like how The Message version translates today’s lettering verse:
“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations— that’s what I had in mind for you.” (Jeremiah 1:5 MSG)
Even though we’re not this specific “prophet to the nations,” God still sets apart His children to proclaim His great name, love, and mercy.
Think about His sacrificial love, perfect provision, abundant care, awesome engineering skill, and infinitely wise planning when He created you. He brought you into this world and sustains you for a reason. Are you embracing His perfect purpose for your life?
