True worshipers of God are to do so “in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24)
But how can I worship God as His word commands when I don’t view Him as He truly is?
A high view of God is essential for true worship. He is the Creator. He is Redeemer. He sustains His children. He will judge the earth…when HE says it is all over. For now, He is patient with all men. He is called the Most High. He is infinitely holy and pure. God the Son came in the form of a human baby; then, after living 33 years on this earth, died a physical death. But under His own power He raised Himself from the dead three days later. Today, He is alive…sitting at the right hand of the throne of His Father!
I worship this God. I claim to be His adopted child. I fellowship with other children. I take of my Lord’s table. I corporately sing praise songs to Him on Sunday and Wednesday. I hear at least 3 sermons a week.
But all of these things are in vain if I do them for any reason other than to worship Him. What are my motives, really? How exactly DO I view God?
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24
